Nobel laureate Prof. Barry Marshall visits SCU

On June 11, Prof. Barry J. Marshall, the 2005 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (as a foreign member), the United States National Academy of Sciences, and the Australian Academy of Science, visited Sichuan University (SCU). Zhao Changsheng, Vice President of SCU, Executive Vice Dean Wang Kunjie of West China School of Medicine, and the heads of relevant unites, met with the guests.

Zhao Changsheng extended a warm welcome to Prof. Marshall and his delegation, and briefly introduced SCU. Prof. Marshall expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, and stated that the West China School of Medicine of SCU and the University of Western Australia have maintained a long-term good academic exchange relationship.

Prof. Marshall introduced the purpose of his visit to SCU, hoping to learn about the research progress of West China School of Medicine, promote academic cooperation with relevant teams in West China medicine, and jointly advance more influential collaboration outcomes in biomedical field. He also praised the academic foundation and innovative spirit of SCU’s students who went to Australia for exchange.

After the meeting, Prof. Marshall gave a special lecture for the faculty and students, sharing his academic journey of discovering Helicobacter pylori, and encouraged students to diligently pursue research and enhance the spirit of exploration. The lecture received an enthusiastic response.
