Recently, two research teams from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, the team led by Prof. Ma Xuelei from the Department of Biotherapy and the team led by Professor Li Sheyu from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, jointly published an article titled “Efficacy of digital interventions for smoking cessation by type and method: a systematic review and network meta-analysis” in Nature Human Behaviour (IF: 15.9).
The study conducted a frequency-based random-effects network meta-analysis on 152 studies to evaluate the efficacy of various digital interventions for smoking cessation compared with standard care. The interventions were categorized by methodological approaches and types of communication technologies, with cross-matched analyses performed. The results demonstrated that both personalized and group-customized interventions significantly improved smoking cessation rates relative to standard care. Among different technological approaches, SMS-based interventions exhibited more substantial impact on smoking cessation outcomes.
